We are used to hearing noise now, specially if we live in a big city, so that it does not seem to bother us anymore, exept when we change from place and we go to somewhere quiet such as the countryside. It is then when we are aware of the big noise of the city. If we want to be even more aware of that noise and measure it, we can use an app such as Sound Meter.
In order to work properly, Sound Meter uses the microphone of our mobile phone to measure the noise of the environment, and the app shos the values in decibels(dB).
For a better understanding of the meaning of those measurement, the app has created a comparison of dB and the element that could have the same values. For example, we have: 50 dB silent street, 100 dB train - hairdryer, 130 dB reaction engine, and so on, with a series of measurements that go from 20 to 180 dB.
Not all mobile phone models offer the same answer, because not all the microphones are the same and they are not measured in the same way. The developers of Sound Meter have measured a lot of models so that the app can be adapted to them, such as: Moto Droid(max.100), Galaxy S3(81dB), Galaxy Note(91dB), Galaxy S2(98dB)... y many more.
